We are delighted that Professor Andrew Harrison, a RET Trustee, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's birthday honours list this year for services to Science during the Covid-19 response.

Andrew harrisonAndrew has been CEO of the Diamond Light Source, the UK's national synchrotron research facility, since 2014, leading Diamond's 700+ team as it supports 14,000 scientists in universities and industry. Working tirelessly throughout lockdown and beyond, Andrew and his team have been researching ways to identify new therapies for Covid-19. He said, "A particular pleasure has been the recognition this gives to the many staff at Diamond who have worked so hard over the past difficult months to keep research going on Covid-19."

Andrew, who has daughters at Didcot Girls' School and Didcot Sixth Form, joins two other RET Trustees who have been honoured by the Queen. Rita Atkinson was awarded an MBE for voluntary services to young people and to the people of Sutton Courtenay in 2004 and Stephen White was awarded an OBE in 2009 for services to the nuclear industry.

We send our congratulations to Andrew, and we are extremely grateful to all our Trustees for their expertise and ongoing commitment to ensure that RET achieves its vision of providing an excellent education for 4 to 19-year-olds within its schools.
